As soon as I saw this technique, I knew I had to try it out! I have applique'd. I have painted with freezer paper stencils. So let's add bleaching shirts to my repertoire! I wanted a girly Superman t-shirt to wear on Father's Day. (We are celebrating the hubs in "Superman" style this Sunday!)
The first time I tried this method, I failed completely learned a lot. So I am pleased that I can share a *successful* tutorial with you! I'll share my oopseys at the end of the tutorial. But you will not believe how easy this is!
Here is what I learned from my oopseys:
* Do NOT overdo the bleach. I ruined one of Little Man's shirts because I didn't believe that the invisible bleach was doing all the work.
* I tried using a cardstock stencil the first time, but it did not give me a clean, crisp stencil image. I definitely love my freezer paper!
* If your spray bottle is on "stream", it will leave much larger blotches. I realized that with my first spray!
* I had the best luck when using undiluted bleach.
I am loving my sweet, subtle Superman shirt!
Yes, I had to photo myself. This whole "Superman" theme is still a surprise from the hubs, besides the fact he is out-of-town as always! Ah well, this Supergirl has got it covered. :)
Well done, Superwoman! :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI want to try this technique, but I can't seem to find any tutorials that tell you how long to let the bleach sit on the shirt. Help! Would you mind emailing me at alisonpulham@homtail.com?
ReplyDeleteI think this is too cute! I love it. :) I'm going to have to give it a try. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try this technique forever. Your shirt turned out so nicely!
ReplyDeleteI saw your fabric tied star in the background and giggled. I just made something like that and thought that I made something fairly unique...ha ha. My naivety is hilarious. :)
Stumbled over your blog a few minutes ago... Immediately fell in love with the technique, have to get some t-shirts and bleach right now ;)
ReplyDeleteCan you just explain to me what freezer paper is? I'm living in Austria and I have never heard of that... Maybe you (or somebody else who knows) can enlighten me? akela22 (at) yahoo.com
Off to read some more of your great ideas...
Smiles,
Jutta
